I have legitimately written and re-written this intro post so many times it’s hilarious. I want to truly capture the essence of how this series theme came about and why I believe it's a necessary discussion in our lives.
The truth is, I am writing this series for me as much as I am writing for you. Insecurity in the place of prayer has been something I’ve grappled with since I said yes to Jesus at 16 years old. So, this is by no means a new topic for me.
Lately, prayer & intercession have become so difficult to keep up with. It’s been the most silent game of tug of war, making many moments feel like an unnoticeable paralysis. Not knowing how to lean into the subtle yet weighty holy burdens, while simultaneously being lured into avoidance because anything is better than acknowledging the reality of the present.
For the longest I was in denial. I labeled the spiritual resistance “busyness”, but when my schedule was no longer an issue, my excuse to abandon prayer evolved into my physical location or the time of day not being convenient. Then, the inconvenience morphed into insecurity; not knowing what to pray, feeling shame or unworthiness, being convinced by doubt, etc. I wish I could say I noticed my apathy right away, but it took me a couple of months.
I realized that my “go-to” for life’s ups and downs was not prayer. Instead, my “go-to” became anything that relied on my own wisdom and strength. Here were some of my faves to name a few:
Self-Care Sunday
Stricter Daily Routines
Talk Therapy
Travel
Shopping
& Binging on social events
As great as these things are, they could not feed the appetite my heart was developing in the thick of hardship. If these things did anything of substance in my time of need, they made me a junkie to instant gratification (but that’s another topic for another day).
So when the instant gratification wore off, and nothing I did would satisfy the longings of my heart for answers, assistance, and clarity, the Lord graciously began to call me to himself with more fervor.
It was my thirst that led me back to Him. God used my thirst… my longing… to build a cobblestone pathway embedded with my woes back to the thing I loved - Prayer!
It’s my belief that God is drawing you too - with loving intensity, to acknowledge your thirst and be led to drink from “the well” that is prayer.
I’m convinced that in this hour the Lord wants to restore the PACE of the believer, and he wants to do that by restoring your prayer life and prayer posture.
It’s not just about building a routine to pray, but it’s about crowning you - establishing you in your seat of God-given access. I know that can sound scary, but you don’t need to fear something you were always created to carry.
That’s the compelling call that inspired this new blog series. Insecure Intercessors is a series that walks through my personal process of accepting the mantle of prayer on my life, and helps you get comfortable with accepting the responsibility on your life to pray and never stop!
This series will detail how to move from insecurity in prayer to fresh confidence and boldness in the secret place. I believe that now is the time you learn how to overcome fear & to silence mockery that tends to echo in your hearts when considering where to start in prayer.
Prayer is a gift, a tool, a lifeline, a bridge, and so much more! It is on God’s heart to teach his children how to benefit from prayer and navigate it well.
I even hear the spirit of the Lord saying now that “there are many things you are up against, but I will equip your hands and your mouths for war.” (Psalm 144:1)
There is a world of blessing waiting for you at the sound of your voice.
The enemy doesn't want you to have this revelation, so he inserts resistance in all forms in hopes that you wouldn’t find time to pray or that you’d be so weighed down by life that it inspires your silence.
But you and I are heirs with Christ. We have access! As children of God we MUST use it! If we don’t, we forfeit our inheritance. Do we really want to miss out on divine nepotism? Exactly!
So I’ll leave you with this -
This is your time to find your voice in prayer!
This is your time to learn how to wield your weapon.
This is your time to put insecurity in its place where it belongs - beneath and behind you.
For you are coming into the days of your “unhinged and unhindered” season. All muzzles in the spirit are being removed. You will be free to speak to your God and free to declare His will with boldness.
I hope you enjoy this series as much as I enjoy writing it!
